Las imágenes de un hombre muerto en una calle en Wuhan que conmociona al mundo entero

El cuerpo de un hombre muerto permaneció varias horas en una acera de Wuhan, la ciudad china epicentro de la epidemia de neumonía viral, antes de ser llevado por los servicios de emergencia, constató la AFP.

El hombre, de unos 60 años, llevaba en la cara una mascarilla de protección blanca. Vestido de negro, yacía boca arriba, con los brazos extendidos a lo largo del cuerpo.

No se puede establecer relación alguna entre su fallecimiento y el nuevo coronavirus que ya dejó 259 muertos en China, la inmensa mayoría de ellos en Wuhan o su región.

Pero la cuarentena impuesta en Wuhan la semana pasada y la prohibición de circular en automóvil han vaciado sus calles, y ello explica el relativo anonimato en el que esta persona falleció.

Un periodista de la AFP vio el cuerpo inanimado el jueves por la mañana ante una tienda de muebles. Luego, llegaron policía y socorristas con trajes integrales de protección.

El hombre murió a algunas decenas de metros del Hospital número 6 de Wuhan, uno de los principales centros médicos reservados al tratamiento de personas afectadas por el virus.

La policía y las autoridades sanitarias locales, contactadas por la AFP, no pudieron aportar precisiones sobre las condiciones del deceso.

“Es terrible”

Tras haber examinado el cadáver, el personal médico colocó delicadamente una manta azul sobre el cuerpo.

Policías visiblemente nerviosos rodearon el cuerpo con cartones para impedir la vista al público, antes de que un equipo de la policía científica prosiguiera el examen del cuerpo.

“Es terrible”, dice una mujer, vestida con un pijama rosa, mientras relata que el personal médico, muy ocupado, no pudo ocuparse de la víctima de forma inmediata. “Mucha gente ha muerto estos últimos días”, asegura.

Esta mujer, muy afectada, impidió que un hombre que se dirigía hacia el lugar del incidente se acercara al cuerpo, alegando que la causa del fallecimiento podía ser el nuevo coronavirus.

Un hombre que fuma cerca del lugar es obligado por la policía a apagar su cigarrillo y a ponerse una mascarilla, como es obligatorio en la ciudad desde hace algunos días. Obedece de inmediato.

15 ambulancias

Las autoridades chinas han adoptado medidas drásticas para frenar la propagación del virus. Han impuesto el aislamiento a más de 50 millones de personas en Wuhan y la provincia de Hubei (centro), de la que es capital.

Se están construyendo actualmente dos nuevos hospitales y deben en teoría abrir la semana próxima, para absorber el flujo de enfermos.

En el lapso de poco mas de dos horas de presencia el jueves en el lugar del incidente, la AFP vio pasar por las calles al menos a 15 ambulancias, que respondían a otros llamados de socorro.

Tras haber permanecido en la acera más de dos horas, el cuerpo fue finalmente colocado en una bolsa mortuoria amarilla, y luego transportado en camilla a un furgón blanco con cristales oscuros.

Los policías y el personal médico empezaron de inmediato a desinfectar el lugar donde el cadáver fue hallado.
